Tolkien's Universe

Hello again readers! Sorry I haven't posted in a while I literally have no excuse for that. I bet you thought I was gonna say "I haven't had time because of school" but nope... I'm just lazy.
Either way, I'm here now so let's get into this post!
Today I decided to talk about a writer and his works that completely changed my childhood. I would probably be a whole different person without his work. As you most likely already read by the title, that writer is J. R. R. Tolkien and if you haven't heard of him, he is the author of The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit. And if you haven't heard of these very popular books and movies, then I'm sorry, go back to your home planet.

So first of all, let me say a few words about Tolkien or better yet, John Ronald Reuel Tolkien. He was born way back in 1892 on the third of January in Bloemfontein in the Orange Free State (today's South Africa) and died on the second of September 1973 (age 81). Tolkien's first popular book was The Hobbit, at first written for his children, but thanks to an employee of the London publishing firm the book came to light in 1936. It attracted not only children, but adults too, so after a year it became popular enough for a sequel.

The sequel of course was The Lord of the Rings that was published in three volumes 1954-1955. He intended it to also be a children's book, much like The Hobbit, but as he got deeper into the story it got much more darker and serious, so when it came out, it was addressed for an older audience.

Now, if you had come from a different planet, welcome! Do you like it here on Earth? Yeah? You're a weirdo. Let me tell you a little about Tolkien's works. So The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit are set in a world, called the Middle-Earth, created by Tolkien himself. It is a world filled with all kinds of creatures that roamed all kinds of lands. It had Elfs and Dwarfs, Wizards and Men, Orcs, Dragons, Ents, Hobbits of course and a lot more. Hundreds of different kingdoms, ruled by different kings, with different cultures and languages. Tolkien has also created whole new languages, the Elvish languages and drew maps of his world completely from scratch. Impressive, huh?

Have you noticed how enthusiastic I was while Talking about Tolkien's universe? Well it will always hold a special place in my heart. Warning: If you insult his work in front of me, I swear, I will smash your head open and trow your brain out and proceed to be astonished by how small it actually is. Just kidding, if you don't like The Lord of the Rings, The Hobbit etc. that is completely fine, that's your opinion. But you have been warned I will defend it at any time.
Welp, if you still haven's watched The Lord of the Rings or read it, I don't know what to tell you. You're missing out a lot. Go watch it now, what else can I say? That's all from me, hope you enjoyed this post and have a nice day! See ya, byyyeee!

The Divergent Series

Hey there, how was your first day of school? No, no, no, we ain't gonna talk about that. What we are gonna talk about is this book series that I read recently. I believe a lot of you have heard about The Divergent series of books and movies, but for those who haven't I'll give you a short explanation.

The story is set in the dystopian future, better yet in the dystopian Chicago. The city is divided in five factions: Abnegation (the selfless), Erudite (the intelligent), Dauntless (the brave), Amity (the peaceful) and Candor (the honest).

The story is told through a sixteen-year-old girl Beatrice Prior, better known as Tris, that starts off in Abnegation. When the time comes she must take an aptitude test that will show her which faction she is best suited for. But the thing is the test shows inconclusive results, so it indicates aptitude for three factions: Abnegation, Erudite and Dauntless. This means that she is Divergent which is apparently dangerous in the world she's living in so she has to stay cautious. On the Choosing Day Tris picks Dauntless and that's when her adventures begin.
There are three books written by Veronica Roth and one extra, a collection of stories about Four (one of the main characters). I read all of them and trust me I bawled my eyes out crying at the end.

As I said before there is a movie series as well. It is a science fiction film directed by Neil Burger that came out in 2014. The main characters are played by Shailene Woodley (Tris Prior) and Theo James (Tobias Eaton "Four").

I know, I said a short explanation but I tryed my best. If  you want to experience the whole story by yourself  I recommend you read the books or at least watch the movies.
That's all from me today, hope you liked it! Byyyeee!

What NOT to do at school

It's that dreadful time of year again... In less than a week we're going back to that living hell that we call school. Now that I think about it, school has already began for some of you... I'm sorry about that. I mean if you actually like school then you're probably a brainiac and school is yet a thing to do so you don't get bored, so no worries. Moving on, I'm here today to tell you some things you should avoid doing at school. So here we go.

Number 1) Do NOT talk back to teachers.

If a teacher says something that is not completely correct, or says something against you, embarrass you or just straight up be mean to you or someone else in the class, the best thing to do is nothing. If you start talking back to them that just gives them a reason to punish you. So just continue sitting there and keep your mouth shut.

Number 2) Do NOT study with your phone next to you.

I know this is not a thing you do at school, but studying is a major part of it. You're having a big exam tommorow, worth 25% of your grade or whatever, so you need to get your study on. But what's the problem? Why can't you focus? Oh, maybe it's because you have your fricking phone next to you!
All the texts, instagram, twitter, facebook notifications and other things are distracting you from your work ( I am guilty of this as well, oops). Don't fear, there's a simple solution for this. Just turn of the notifications. or better yet your phone! I know it's hard to put to sleep your loved one, but we all must make sacrifices.

Number 3) Do NOT give the bully what they want.

There's a bully in every school. That's a fact. I'm not a person who gets bullied (which is surprising actually) but I can imagine how it looks and feels. To all you out there that are getting bullied in school please don't let it get to you. They're doing it because they're probably jealous or just want to irritate you and the best thing to do is to ignore them. The thing they want the most is to get attention, pick a fight or bring you down so don't let them do that. After a while they should stop, but if they don't consider telling a teacher about them so they learn their leason.

Number 4) Do NOT leave your homework till the last second.

Ugh, homework. We all have it, we all hate it. But the thing you should definitely not do is to leave it for the last second. The best thing to do is to get it done first thing when you come home. But no one wants to do that so I suggest you give yourself a half-hour or so break before starting (This apllies for studying, too). If you leave it for the last second it might get somewhat stressful because you may not have enough time for it.

Number 5) Do NOT be late to class.

Last but not least, try not to be late to class, will ya? I know, sometimes you oversleep because you were studying all night, or you missed your bus and I get that but the teachers won't. It just gives them another reason to give you detention. Yeah they're meanies. So just set your alarm clock five minutes earlier and there won't be a problem. It happened to me before but my teachers usually don't give a damn about it, so just hope you'll be lucky too.

So yeah, hope this helped at least a tiny bit and good luck in the upcoming school year. I'll see you in the next post. Byyyeee!

LOST

Hey there readers! Today I'm going to be talking about a TV show called Lost and don't worry there's no spoilers. So Lost is an American drama series containing elements of both the supernatural phenomena and science fiction. The story follows the survivors of the Oceanic Flight 815 that crashed 1,000 miles off course on, what seemed as a deserted, tropical island. However the island was filled with underground bunkers, a monstrous security system and a group of violent survivalists hidden in the shadows, or better known as the Others. Throughout the episodes we get to take a peek into the characters past and discover some of their most shocking secrets.
The show was created by Jeffrey Lieber, J. J. Abrams and Damon lindelof. It aired from September 22, 2004, to May 23, 2010, with six seasons and a total of 121 episodes.
I would say who the main characters are but the thing is, there's like ten of them, at least. But have no fear, I will go through the process of naming the ones I think are the most important! Well it's more like eight, not ten.
So the "main" characters would be Jack Shephard, the troubled surgeon played by Matthew Fox, Kate Austen, a portrayed fugitive played by Evangeline Lilly. James "Sawyer" Ford, a con man played by Josh Holloway. Hugo "Hurley" Reyes, an unlucky lottery winner played by Jorge Garcia, the mysterious John Locke played by Terry O'Quinn. Sayid Jarrah, a former Iraqi Republican Guard played by Naveen Andrews, Sun-Hwa Kwon, daughter of a powerful Korean businessman played by Yunjin Kim and her husband Jin-Soo Kwon, played by Daniel Dae Kim.

Okay, so I can't think of anything else to say than that I'm highly recommending this TV show, it's my favourite and I guarantee you'll enjoy it as well. Welp that's all from me. "See ya in another post, brotha!"

Harry Potter and the Cursed Child

Hello again! The first movies/books I decided to do a "review" on will be the one, the only: Harry Potter, well to be specific, the 8th installmet. I believe you all heard about them and if you haven't you're probably living under a rock tbh. So moving on, I'm a HUGE potterhead, they're one of my favourite books and movies and my heart just filled with joy when I found out there was going to be more.
So, Harry Potter and the Cursed Child is a two-part play written by Jack Thorne based on a new srory by Thorne, J.K. Rowling and John Tiffany. The official premiere was scheduled on the 30th of July 2016 at the Palace Theatre, London (of course I couldn't go since I'm stuck in Serbia ugh). I believe the book came out on the 31th of July *cough* Harry's birthday *cough*.

I was somehow able to read the script (thanks to my bro) and I must say that it's good. Some people will say that you can tell Rowling wasn't the only one writing it but it seems fine to me. Anyway, the story follows Harry's third child Albus Severus and how he turned out to be a lot different than his father. So he decided to go of on an adventure with his friend Scorpius and a lot of cool shit happend. The End.
Well that's all I have for you today I hope you liked my first 'review' and I guess I'll see you in my next post. Byyyeee!

Hello, fellow nerds.

Well hello there, dear reader. My name is Petra but I don't like the sound of it so just call me River (I, for some reason, love that name) and I'm from Serbia. Now that we got all those boring things out of the way let me tell you what my blog is supposed to be.
I LOVE reading books, wathcing movies and TV shows and above all video games. So I'm gonna try to make my blog about that. The video game part is probably gonna be minimal since I have a bad computer and can't experience them for myself. But hey, that's not going to stop me from writing about them! I'll probably include some random things too so don't be surprised about that lol.
So yeah, I'm doing all this just for some shits and giggles and we'll see what comes out of it. Wish me luck on my journey. Byyyeee!
